From research to innovation – entrepreneurship, commercialisation and international cooperation
From 23 to 25 September 2026, representatives of the PK Krakow University of Technology took part in the international STARS EU workshop ‘From Research to Innovation: Entrepreneurship for PhD students and Early-Career Researchers’, organised by the Université Marie et Louis Pasteur (UMLP) in Besançon, France.
The event was attended by PhD students from the PK Krakow University of Technology’s Doctoral School and staff members of the university, as well as representatives of the Krakow University of Technology’s Technology Transfer Centre and researchers associated with the Ortyl Photo Lab at the Faculty of Chemical Engineering and Technology. Such a broad representation of the university allowed for an examination of the innovation process from several perspectives – that of a researcher, a PhD student, a technology transfer specialist, and a researcher developing solutions with implementation potential. The workshop in Besançon demonstrated that the development of young researchers increasingly goes beyond conducting research and preparing publications. Knowledge of intellectual property protection principles, the ability to assess the market potential of research outcomes, to develop business models, to collaborate with the business community, and to work effectively in international teams are becoming key elements of a modern academic career.
The participation of representatives from the Krakow University of Technology in the STARS EU event also provided an opportunity to exchange experiences and develop. The participation of representatives from the PK Kraków University of Technology in the STARS EU event also provided an opportunity to exchange experiences, develop skills in the field of academic entrepreneurship, and build relationships with researchers and experts from European partner universities. Such initiatives enable research findings to be viewed not only as the basis for further publications, but also as a starting point for developing technologies and solutions that can be applied in the economy and socjety.
