Architecture and Urban Planning

Discipline description 

The scientific discipline of architecture and urban sciences encompasses a broad scope of problems related to the research into shaping spaces for the human needs.  

The following areas fall within the scope of the academic research: architectural design, urban design, construction design, landscape architecture, horticulture, fine arts, spatial and regional planning, history of architecture and urban design, monument protection and conservation, cultural and natural heritage protection, revitalisation, sustainable development, as well as numerous related research areas. Some of the research topics are of interdisciplinary character and are related by subject matter with other disciplines.  

The research is conducted in the theoretical and practical aspects, and the scientific objectives of the research are often accompanied by implementation objectives. 

The topics covered in the research are both of narrow and highly specialised nature and extensively defined character, including comparative topics – in Poland and globally. 

The scientific discipline of architecture and urban science at Cracow University of Technology has been awarded the academic category A+.  

Since the times of the first theoretician of urban sciences – the Greek Hippodamus of Miletus and the first theoretician of architecture – the Roman Marcus Vitruvius, through the subsequent generations of researchers and creators, architecture and urban sciences – defined in the categories of utility, permanence and beauty – have invariably remained an inexhaustible field of academic research,  in an inextricable and complex bond with the human life, undertaking of which is both necessary for the society and satisfying for researchers.  

Who may apply?  

The person eligible to apply for admission must have graduated from a 2nd cycle study programme or from a uniform Master’s Degree study programme in: architecture (the professional title of Master in Architecture), architecture and urban planning (the professional title of Master in Architecture), landscape architecture (the professional title of Master in Engineering, Master in Landscape Architecture) or spatial development (the professional title of Master in Engineering).
