Many PhD students emphasized that the workshop helped them better understand how important decisions made at the very beginning of a research project can be, particularly in areas such as intellectual property protection, confidentiality, and collaboration with external partners.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">One doctoral candidate noted that they travelled to Tenerife with the goal of gaining practical knowledge about research commercialization and intellectual property management. Following the mobility, they highlighted that the workshop demonstrated how essential it is to integrate scientific, legal, and business perspectives from the earliest stages of a research project.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Similar reflections appeared throughout many of the responses. Participants pointed out that the knowledge they acquired helped them view research results not only as material for academic publications but also as potential solutions that could create real value for industry and society.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading has-text-align-left\">From Intellectual Property to Start-ups<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The workshop programme covered a wide range of topics, from the fundamentals of copyright and industrial property rights to intellectual property management in Horizon Europe projects, academic entrepreneurship, spin-off creation, and market assessment of emerging technologies. A particularly valuable aspect of the programme was its practical dimension, including case studies, group exercises, and direct discussions with experts.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">One doctoral candidate working on the commercialization of a technology developed as part of her doctoral research indicated that sessions dedicated to spin-off creation and technology commercialization pathways were especially valuable. Another participant highlighted an inspiring meeting with an entrepreneur who had successfully transformed scientific achievements into an innovative technology start-up.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Topics related to the impact of artificial intelligence on intellectual property, protection of research results in international projects, and cooperation between universities and business partners also attracted considerable interest. The PhD students from the Cracow University of Technology highly valued the international character of the event, emphasizing the openness of participants and the atmosphere that encouraged the exchange of ideas and experiences.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">During the workshop, participants worked in international teams, jointly analysed case studies, and discussed challenges related to conducting research in different academic environments. This enabled them to gain insight into diverse research perspectives and establish contacts that may lead to future joint publications, research projects, or further initiatives within the STARS EU Alliance.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n\n\n\n<div style=\"height:20px\" aria-hidden=\"true\" class=\"wp-block-spacer\"><\/div>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">One participant emphasized that the opportunity to meet PhD students, early-career researchers, and experts from different countries is among the greatest strengths of the STARS EU programme. Another PhD students noted that the shared learning activities and networking opportunities encouraged natural relationship-building and created space for future scientific cooperation.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Developing the Skills of Future Research Leaders<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Participants\u2019 reflections clearly demonstrate that doctoral education today extends far beyond conducting scientific research alone. Increasing importance is placed on competencies related to project management, grant acquisition, protection of research outcomes, technology transfer, and communication with socio-economic stakeholders.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The PhD students emphasized that the workshop equipped them with skills they will be able to apply both in their research activities and in the preparation of grant proposals, international collaborations, and commercialization strategies for the technologies they develop. The combination of expert knowledge, practical exercises, and opportunities to learn from professionals experienced in technology transfer and research commercialization was particularly appreciated.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading has-text-align-left\">International Mobility as an Investment in the Future<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Participants unanimously stressed that the mobility in Tenerife was a valuable experience both academically and personally. It enabled them to develop new competencies, learn about good practices implemented at other academic institutions, and build professional networks within an international research environment.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The STARS EU workshop once again demonstrated the important role that collaboration between partner universities plays in creating a modern environment for doctoral education. Through initiatives such as this, PhD students at the Cracow University of Technology Doctoral School can develop not only their scientific potential but also the skills necessary to thrive in the
